IBM Storwize V7000 - My Clients Best Friend

Recently, a number of my clients have moved to the IBM Storwize V7000 to solve different storage needs. The IBM Storwize V7000 is a mid-range storage system that includes features to virtualize other storage arrays behind it.

Tiered Storage Design Considerations

Tiered storage is one of the oldest storage management concepts as storage administrators have sought ways to provide the most performance from the resources they have at hand. Whether the storage is internal, direct-attached external, or centralized on a SAN (FC or iSCSI), the objective has been to match data performance needs to the storage performance and capacity available to "get the most bang for the buck".

TCO Comparison - SVC vs V7000

I’m a big fan of storage virtualization.  Have been for a long time.  The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) savings are too significant to not be.  From reduced hardware expenditures through commoditization of the storage components to the benefits acquired by thin provisioning – you are going to spend less and get a lot more.  Bring in the reduced management costs of a virtualized storage environment and its a slam dunk.  It’s why the IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) has been such a great product for our clients.
